How do I book a car with Link?
Firstly, get a quote online (simply enter your dates, and pickup and return locations), by email (info@linklowcostrentals.co.nz) or call us on +64 9 401 5076. If you are happy with the quote and information provided book online, by email or by calling us on the numbers above. (top)
How far in advance do I need to book?
It is recommended you book as early as possible regardless of the time of year you are travelling. Booking early ensures you receive the vehicle group requested and enables you to plan the rest of your holiday. (top)
How old do I have to be to hire with Link?
You can hire with Link if you are 21+ years of age. There is no maximum age. (top)
What driving licence do I need to hire with Link?
You must hold a valid full drivers licence from your home country. An International Driver’s Licence is not required but is accepted. The law requires us to sight your licence when you collect your vehicle. (top)
How many drivers can be on the agreement?
Link allows two drivers free-of-charge. Additional drivers are $5 per day. (top)
Are Link’s prices “all inclusive”?
Link has no hidden fees. Our prices are in New Zealand dollars ($) and include Goods and Services Tax (GST), unlimited kilometres and insurance. (top)
Is insurance included in my rental rate?

Comprehensive insurance is included in Link’s rates. Your hire is subject to an insurance excess/deductible of $1500.

The insurance excess/deductible is held as a security bond in the form of a credit card imprint taken at the commencement of your hire. (top)

Can I reduce my insurance excess/deductible?
Link offers peace of mind. You can take our Collision Damage Buydown which reduces your insurance excess/deductible to $250. The Collision Damage Buydown is $15 per day.

You can take our Glass Insurance which covers damage to windows and headlights. The Glass Insurance is $5 per day.

The Collision Damage Buydown and Glass Insurance are offered when you collect your vehicle. (top)

Does Link have “minimum hire periods”?
Yes, in order to provide the most competitive prices the following minimum hire periods apply.

Auckland to Wellington – 7 days
Auckland to Christchurch – 12 days
Travelling north (from Christchurch to Picton and or Wellington to Auckland) – no minimum. (top)

How do I pay for my rental car?
Link offers flexibility when paying for your hire. When you book we take a 10% deposit by Visa or Mastercard to secure your hire with the balance payable when you collect your vehicle. Your deposit is refundable provided we are given seven days notice of your cancellation. (top)
Will I get a refund if I return my car early?
Refunds for early returns are not normally given and are at the discretion of Link Low Cost Rentals. Daily rates may be recalculated where a hire is returned early. (top)
How do I collect my vehicle?
Link provides a Meet and Greet toll free number to call when you arrive. We provide free transfers from airports, ferry terminals and accommodation within the vicinity of our branches (please click here to see our branch locations) [please link to branches page].

Transfers are available from 7.30am to 18.00pm. (top)

Does Link have airport fees?
Link does not charge “airport”, “premium location”, “relocation” or “one way” fees. (top)
How do I return my vehicle?
Simply bring your car to our branch and we will drop you off at the airport or to your accommodation. Transfers are available from 7.30am to 18.00pm. In some cases you can leave your vehicle at your accommodation or at a specified area at the airport out of hours. A $25 early dropoff fee may apply to cover parking and recovery. (top)
Is Link open on public holidays?
Link is open every day except Christmas Day (25 December). (top)
Do I take my car on the Interislander ferry?
No. Link allows you to drop off in one island and pick up in another at no extra charge. Please see our Ferry [please link to the ferry page] page for more information. (top)
Are there any roads I cannot drive on?
You can drive Link vehicles on any road except: Ball Hut Road (Mount Cook), Skipper Road (Queenstown), 90 Mile Beach (Northland) and State Highway 38 Lake Waikaremoana. These roads are not part of normal touring routes. (top)
Can I hire a child seat?
You can hire baby and booster seats from Link for only $25 each per hire. We do not have capsules for newborn babies. (top)
Does Link have in-car GPS navigation?
Yes, book GPS with your rental. Simply place your GPS unit on the dash, plug it in, key in your destination and drive! At only $10.00 per day it’s a small price to pay to get from A to B hassle free! Simply order one when you book your rental car. (top)
Can Link book my ferry tickets?
Yes, Link is happy to make reservations on the Interisland line on your behalf. When booking please supply your preferred crossing date and time along with the names of each passenger. For up to date prices please get a quote online. We give your tickets to you when you collect your vehicle. (top)

Link provides complimentary touring maps to help you on your way.(top)
Can I hire ski racks and snow chains?
Link provides ski racks and snow chains free of charge.(top)
Am I covered in the unlikely event of a breakdown?
Link uses the Automobile Association (AA) Breakdown Service which is available throughout New Zealand. We have our own freephone number which you can call for assistance should you encounter any problems.(top)
What is the age/condition of Link cars?
Link has a variety of well maintained vehicles, all 1998 or newer. All vehicles meet strict legal safety requirements and are thoroughly cleaned and inspected before each hire. Newer vehicles are guaranteed from our associate company Ezi-Rent Car Hire [please link to www.ezirentcarhire.co.nz], and late model vehicles (new to three years of age) are guaranteed from Nationwide Rental Cars.
